Residents Encouraged to Support Michigan Christmas Tree and Poinsettia Growers this Holiday Season

WHAT: Make a fresh, fragrant and natural choice to buy a real, Michigan Christmas tree and poinsettia this holiday season. The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD) Director Keith Creagh encourages residents to support Michigan’s 700 Christmas tree growers, who harvest approximately three million trees; and the 54 poinsettia growers, who produce 2.3 million plants this holiday season.

Michigan ranks third in the U.S. in the number of trees harvested, with no other state producing more Christmas tree varieties, and seventh nationally in poinsettia production. By choosing real Michigan grown Christmas trees and poinsettias this holiday, you’re supporting Michigan growers and making a choice that is good for you, the environment and Michigan’s economy.
