Educational Opportunity for Pork Producers in Allegan and Ottawa County Areas Regarding PRRS Control Takes Place Dec. 7

The West Michigan PRRS Area Regional Control Working Group, Boehringer Ingelheim (BIVI) and Michigan State University (MSU) Extension are collaborating to hold an educational meeting about PRRS in Holland, Mich., on Dec. 7.

West Michigan PRRS Area Regional Control (ARC) Project leaders and representatives from BVI will discuss the progress of stabilizing PRRS and efforts to prevent the spread of the disease in the area. West Michigan PRRS ARC Project representatives will address biosecurity protocols and planning options for the winter months.

The meeting will focus on understanding the next steps for PRRS eradication in western Michigan. Meeting participants will learn how to access funding for herd health testing and surveillance for their operations.

Producers in Allegan and Ottawa counties completed the Production Animal Disease Risk Assessment Program (PADRAP), and the results of these tests will be explained.

“Various production sites have implemented intense testing protocols to assist with identifying risks and potential problems that could arise as they work to stabilize and eliminate PRRS,” Elizabeth Ferry, MSU Extension educator, said.

The meeting takes place at the Rock Island Family Restaurant, 1816 M-40. BIVI sponsors a dinner starting at 6 p.m. The meeting follows at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Ferry at franzeli@msu.edu or 269-445-4438.
