Farm Safety Program Offered in Bad Axe​

A Farm Safety Program will be presented at the Expo Center in Bad Axe, Michigan on Jan. 18, 2017. 

Aimed at students, farm families and emergency responders the program will include information on grain entrapment prevention, respirator use and farm chemicals. 

The Expo is located at 170 W. Soper Road, Bad Axe.

Agenda - Students and Farm Families Program

4:00 – 4:30 PM: Presentation by Wayne Bauer with Emergency Services Rescue Training with thoughts on the Ag Safety & Rescue Initiative & Grain Entrapment Prevention.

4:30 – 5:00 PM: Presentation by Linda (Osier) Esckelson. Linda will share the tragic events involved with her son’s death in 2011. Tommy was active in the local FFA.

5:00 – 5:30 PM: Debra Chester with MI-FACE will discuss the frequency and types of
deaths we see on Michigan farms, along with thoughts on use of respirators. Debra Chester is an Industrial Hygienist with Michigan State University Occupational Medicine. She is willing to conduct a fit test on any eligible farmers between 6:30 and 7 PM , provided they have a completed a prior medical evaluation. Please contact Debra Chester for more info at (517)-432-1008 or Debra.Chester@hc.msu.edu. 

5:30 – 5:50 PM: MAEAP presentation on farm chemicals and pre-planning.

Agenda - Emergency Responder Program

5:50 – 6:30 PM: Light menu / appreciation dinner for attendees (students and farm families are welcomed to stay)

6:30 – 9:30 PM: Gregg Grobbel and Wayne Bauer with Emergency Services Rescue Training (ESRT) will share basic strategies to consider when responding to a variety of farm related emergencies.

One RUP credit available for farmers attending the 4 – 6 PM Farm Safety segment.
Students and farmers are asked to forward their RSVP to Wayne Bauer at 

Three CEU’s available to Emergency Responders attending the 6:30-9:30 PM
segment on Basic Strategies. Emergency Responders are asked to forward their RSVP’s to Randy Miller at millerr@co.huron.mi.us
