Growing an Interest in School Gardens? Join Fellow Gardeners for Annual Meeting

The annual Community School Gardener Networking Meeting (CSGNM) takes place Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Wayne County Community College, Eastern Campus, in Detroit. Registration for the meeting opens Friday, Sept. 30 (www.miyouthandfood.msu.edu).

The CSGNM is a summit of school and community gardeners from across Michigan who seek to build local capacity and strengthen the Youth and Community Food movement throughout the state by sharing knowledge. The CSGNM is an event at which peer-to-peer learning occurs and participants are welcome to share their knowledge and expertise.

The Youth and Community Food initiative supports and enhances the capacity of school and community food projects across Michigan through technical assistance, networking, participatory research and outreach. The initiative enables better access to information, tools and resources through networking and peer-to-peer educational opportunities. This allows strengthening of the opportunity for knowledge, resource and skill sharing, and the capacity building of local initiatives.

Grass-roots organizations and supportive nonprofit staff organize the meeting. Participants will include fellow community and school gardeners, activists, and the volunteers and staff of supportive organizations. Educational and informational sessions, workshops and discussion groups will take place during the afternoon.
