MDARD International Marketing Program Hosts Export Seminar and Launches Facebook Page

Today, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) International Marketing Program will hold an educational seminar, “Prepare for Export Success,” at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing. Jamie Clover Adams, MDARD Director, will be on hand to welcome the attendees to the seminar that provides a day of education on exporting. Topics will range from developing general export readiness skills to understanding export documentation, navigating the logistics involved in exporting, and receiving payments from international customers.

“Continued growth of Michigan’s food and agricultural exports is a critical component of enhancing the strength of one of the state’s most important economic sectors,” said Director Clover Adams. “Governor Snyder has set a goal of doubling food and agriculture exports to $3.5 billion by 2015. Hosting export seminars like these are one of the ways MDARD is working to help meet the Governor’s goal and provide the tools needed to help Michigan businesses become successful food and agriculture exporters.”

Speakers at the educational export seminar include Dennis Lynch, a 32-year veteran of international trade and a seasoned food and agriculture export consultant, who will provide instruction on developing export readiness skills, understanding the harmonized tariff system, international payments, and navigating free trade agreements. Larry Bajmakovich, a 20 plus year veteran of the airline and freight forwarding industry presented on export logistics.

During the event, International Marketing Program staff and seminar participants will actively engaged in social media, spreading their newly acquired knowledge and sharing the excitement of learning about exporting via the MDARD International Marketing Program’s new Facebook page that was launched in conjunction with the event. The new Facebook page will help Michigan companies stay apprised of the export services and upcoming activities, similar to the “Prepare for Export Success” seminar.

The International Marketing Program at MDARD typically hosts several export seminars throughout the year, and provides a variety of resources to Michigan firms interested in exporting.
