Cover Crops and Bioenergy the Focus of MSU Extension Field Day Oct. 4 in St. Johns

A variety of topics related to cover crop establishment, bioenergy generation and corn residue management will be highlighted through educational discussions and demonstrations during a free field event Oct. 4.

The Bioenergy, Cover Crops and Corn Residue Management Field Day will take place (rain or shine) from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Michigan State University (MSU) Bioenergy Farm, at 1600 N. Scott Rd., St. Johns, Mich.

MSU Extension educators will talk with growers about how to harvest corn stover and switchgrass and produce biodiesel fuel, as well as how to understand and use data from current bioenergy research trials. Producers will learn now to incorporate cover crops into their operations and improve efficiencies. Finally, the field day will feature vertical tillage and chopping corn head demonstrations to reflect current corn residue management options.

No registration is required for this free event, which will feature seven speakers from Michigan State University (MSU) Extension.
