MSU Extension Names New Northeast Michigan District Coordinator

Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) has named Kelley Hiemstra as the district coordinator for its 11 county offices in northeastern lower Michigan, effective Feb. 13.

Hiemstra comes to the role from Louisiana State University, where she has served as a regional 4-H coordinator since 2008. In her new role, she will provide administrative oversight for staff members in a district comprising Alcona, Alpena, Arenac, Crawford, Iosco, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle and Roscommon counties.

Her responsibilities will include maintaining relationships with district stakeholders and coordinating and mentoring staff members. She will serve as a liaison within the district with county government, agriculture and agribusiness, industry, health and human service organizations, youth-serving organizations and other potential partners.

Hiemstra formerly served as a regional 4-H agent for the University of Florida and as an MSUE 4-H educator in Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties.

She replaces William Carpenter, who stepped down from the district coordinator role to serve as an MSUE educator in the district.

Hiemstra can be reached after Feb. 13 at 877-643-9882.
