Don’t be chicken! Participate in Two Poultry Workshops Featured During this Year’s ANR Week

Poultry producers can learn how to better manage their flocks and test for diseases at two workshops during Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Week at Michigan State University (MSU). Pullorum Certification and Small Flock Poultry workshops will take place on March 6.

The Pullorum Certification Workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the MSU Pavilion in Classroom C/D. All poultry and game birds except waterfowl and pigeons are required to be blood tested for Pullorum disease before exhibition or movement within the state. Workshop participants will learn about how to test birds and how to fill out the correct testing paperwork. Finally, they’ll perform the test.

The workshop is free. Participants can pay $20 in cash or check at the door to obtain a three-year certification. Registration is not required. The Small Flock Poultry Workshop will teach participants how to care for a small backyard flock. The workshop will focus on management practices, heath issues and biosecurity in small flock production.

The workshop will take place immediately following the Pullorum Certification Workshop from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. A $30 registration fee includes lunch and materials.

To register, mail your name and address, telephone number and/or email, any special dietary needs and payment of $30 per person (payable to MSU) to Darrin Karcher, RE: ANR Week, MSU Department of Animal Science, 1287 Anthony Hall, East Lansing, MI 48824.
