MSU Extension Hosts Small Ruminant Birth Management Clinic in Eaton Rapids on Feb 11 and 18

Sheep and goat producers will learn how to better manage the birth period during the cold winter season in this education workshop taught by MSU Extension small ruminant specialist, Dr. Richard Ehrhardt.

Experienced and novice producers will benefit from this afternoon long program that will consist of hands-on activities as well as discussions and demonstrations to help improve management and decision-making skills.

Participants will learn how to use nutrition management as a tool for preventing complications associated with birthing and how to assess maternal and newborn health.

Specifically, training will be given on dealing with newborn hypothermia, difficult delivery and ensuring a strong bond between mother and offspring.

The program will be repeated on Feb. 11 and 18 from 12-4:30 p.m. at a modern sheep birth facility located at 6280 Kinneville Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827.

Please complete your registration by Feb. 7, as space is limited to 20 persons per session. Contact Carla McLachlan at 517-432-5402 or email at MCLACHL2@msu.edu to ensure your spot in this popular program. You may also register online at: https://commerce.cashnet.com/msu_3645.
