Thumb Area Soybean Festival

From Thursday, June 9 through Sunday, June 12, 2011, Brown City will be holding their first annual Thumb Area Soybean Festival.

  • Thursday begins with the city-wide garage sale and golf cart rally.
  • Friday will be the crowning of the first Soybean Prince and Princess.
  • On Saturday, representatives from the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee will be available to talk about soybeans and their many uses.
  • Sunday will feature the Grand Parade and soybean crayons will be handed out to all the kids.

Whether you are looking for the thrill of the midway rides, participating in the bike rally, or learning more about soybeans, the Thumb Area Soybean Festival is sure to be a soy good time.

Last year Sanilac County grew 136,000 acres of Michigan’s 2 million acres. From the soybean we get soymeal and soy oil. Soybean meal is used primarily for animal feed and the soy oil is used for human consumption as well as products such as cleaners, ink, diesel fuel, and crayons to name a few.
