Engaging in local activities is one way GreenStone gives back to places where we work and live. Our employees carry out our passion for community engagement through a variety of activities both as GreenStone representatives and as volunteers – we are pleased to tell their stories here. Watch for upcoming stories of how our employees give back in our Open Fields blog!

Breast cancer is a horrible disease affecting the lives of far too many women we know and love. In a lifetime, each one of us may feel its impact, directly or indirectly, through a loved one or friend. How can we work to fight and someday beat this disease? Susan G. Komen is the largest and most funded breast cancer organization in the United States. The organization’s bold goal is reducing the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the United States by the year 2026. This is a goal we can all get behind and support.

GreenStone supports this goal by participating in a company-wide fundraiser every year since 2007. Rachel Wood and the rest of the human resources team in the East Lansing office organize a basket raffle benefiting Susan G. Komen’s efforts. The fundraiser takes place in early April when departments and individuals from all GreenStone branches create baskets full of goodies using fun and relevant themes. Departments and individuals purchase raffle tickets and submit them to win one of the baskets. Funds collected from ticket sales are donated to Susan G. Komen of Michigan through their Race for the Cure event that took place in Lansing on April 29. Across GreenStone, over 120 employees participated in the fundraiser, entering their raffle tickets in 30 eye-catching and creative baskets.

“We look forward to this fundraiser and supporting Susan G. Komen of Michigan every year,” says Rachel Wood, one of GreenStone’s human resources generalists, “It creates a lot of excitement and creativity in the office.”

Lansing’s Race for the Cure event raised over $93,000, with team GreenStone being the top contributing team raising a total of $5,000 for the cause. The funds go directly toward further research and supporting Susan G. Komen’s mission of significantly decreasing breast cancer deaths in the next 10 years through education, screenings and treatments.

Participants at Lansing's Race for the Cure event

Thank you to all team members who participated in this year’s basket raffle and contributed to Lansing’s Race for the Cure. This year’s fundraiser was a wonderful success, and we already look forward to supporting the cause again next year and every year until we find a cure.
