Core Coverage Options
Revenue Protection
Revenue Protection policies insure producers against yield losses due to natural causes such as drought, excessive moisture, hail, wind, frost, insects, and disease, and revenue losses caused by a change in the harvest price from the projected price.
Coverage Levels
From 50% to 85%
Yield Protection
Yield protection offers financial compensation to farmers when their yields fall below predetermined levels due to factors such as drought, flood, hail, frost, disease, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Margin Protection
Margin Protection is an area-based insurance plan for corn and soybeans that provides coverage against an unexpected decrease in operating margin (revenue less input costs), caused by reduced county yields, reduced commodity prices, increased prices of certain inputs, or any combination of these. Coverage is available up to 95% and is usually purchased in tandem with a Revenue Protection policy.
Pasture, Rangeland, Forage (PRF) Insurance
PRF insurance is designed to provide coverage on your pasture, rangeland, or forage acres, and is based on precipitation levels known as the Rainfall Index.
If you experience loss or damage to forage produced for grazing or harvested hay, PRF Insurance can help mitigate the resulting increased costs for feed, destocking, depopulating, or other actions taken.
Actual Production History
Actual Production History (APH) is a multi-peril plan that protects against the loss of production due to unavoidable natural occurrences. This policy is distinct from PRF, which covers established stands.
Forage Production policy
For producers who maintain detailed production records, the RMA also offers an Actual Production History (APH) Forage Production policy, which is a multi-peril plan.
Coverage
This policy covers perennial forage grown for haying and does not use a rainfall index. It insures against a variety of natural perils.
Loss Determination
Claims are based on a reduction in your actual yield compared to your APH guarantee.
Enhanced Coverage Options
Enhanced & Supplemental Coverage Options (ECO & SCO)
For many producers, Enhanced Coverage Option (ECO) and Supplemental Coverage Option (SCO) are cost-effective risk management solutions that increase your revenue floor and provide stability from falling commodity prices.
SCO is a county policy that can be stacked on top of your underlying revenue or yield protection coverage. It adds coverage to the base policy up to 86% of the crop value.
ECO is a multiple peril crop insurance (MPCI) option that provides area-based coverage for a portion of your underlying policy’s deductible similar to SCO. It uses the same expected and final area yields, projected and harvest prices, and payment factors as SCO, but covers a band from 86% (where SCO coverage triggers) up to 90% or 95% of the expected crop value.
Private Coverage Products
Crop Hail Insurance
Crop hail insurance can help you weather storms that can disrupt your operation.
In addition to providing coverage to high-yielding crops, crop-hail protects you against yield loss caused by fire, lightning, and vandalism while the crop is in the field or harvester. It also extends to protect some crops during transit or storage.
Crop-hail policies can be customized for your operation depending on the potential risks to your crops and the commodities being produced. It can be purchased at any time during the growing season.
Private Coverage Options
Additional Options
Private insurance products are a powerful way to fill coverage gaps in your risk management plan. These add-ons supplement your federal multi-peril crop insurance (MPCI), giving you greater flexibility and deeper protection where you need it most. At GreenStone, our crop insurance specialists will help you evaluate and customize options to build coverage that fits your acres, margins, and marketing strategy.
