GreenStone Hosts Centennial Celebration at the Capitol, Commemorates 100 Years of Service to Rural Communities and Agriculture

GreenStone Farm Credit Services commemorated a century of support to rural communities and agriculture on Sept. 21 with an event at the Michigan State Capitol in downtown Lansing. Agriculture leaders and Michigan legislators gathered to mark the milestone and learn more about GreenStone's mission to ensure rural communities grow and thrive for the next 100 years.

State Senator Darwin Booher and State Representative Dan Lauwers sponsored resolutions to recognize GreenStone for its 100 years of service, and Governor Rick Snyder also signed a special tribute to congratulate the association. "We are grateful to our legislators for their continued support of Farm Credit and the agricultural industry," said GreenStone former President and CEO Dave Armstrong. "As our centennial year comes to a close, we are focused on the future and continuing to deliver consistent, reliable and responsible credit and financial services for the next 100 years and beyond."

At the event, Dave Armstrong recognized several outstanding agricultural leaders who were honored as part of the Fresh Perspectives search. Honorees include Adam Montri, Bath, owner and operator of Ten Hens Farms; Alex Bryan, Lansing, director of agriculture with the Greater Lansing Food Bank;  Amanda Zaluckyj, Coloma, blogger at thefarmersdaughterusa.com; and Addy Battel, Cass City, a 13 year-old student and FFA leader.

"I believe the future of agriculture depends on our future generations, the agriculturalists like my friends and me who are still young," says Addy. "But we don't need to wait to make a difference. Even if we can't vote or drive, we are agvocates and we can educate and create a better future now."
