GreenStone in the Community: Stuff a Humvee

A Humvee stuffed with back to school supplies

Engaging in local activities is one way GreenStone gives back to places where we work and live. Our employees carry out our passion for community engagement through a variety of activities both as GreenStone representatives and as volunteers – we are pleased to tell their stories here. Watch for upcoming stories of how our employees give back in our Open Fields blog!

Youth everywhere are preparing for the beginning of a brand new school year. Unfortunately, hundreds, even thousands of students in our communities are going back to school without the necessary materials. Without us even knowing it, these kids are often our neighbors, our friends and families kids and the friends of our own children. The sheriff’s department in Michigan’s Tuscola County recognized the need and offered their support. The department organized an event where donations were loaded into a Humvee for distribution among Tuscola County schools.

When folks at GreenStone’s Caro branch saw their local sheriff’s department post on Facebook about the Stuff a Humvee event, they knew they needed to get involved. The Caro branch staff and customers collected school supplies to contribute.

Amanda Barber, a credit analyst in GreenStone’s Caro branch shared her perspective of the event.

“I have an eight year old son attending school in the Caro School District. I am fortunate to always be able to send him to school with all the supplies he needs, but I know other families are not always so lucky,” Amanda said. “This event is dear to my heart because I know we are helping set these kids up for success in this upcoming school year.”

It is important for those at GreenStone to get involved in local community service activities, because the areas where we work are often the areas we live. Getting out into the community, interacting with neighbors, friends, colleagues and customers is an important part of GreenStone’s core values.

Thank you to all who donated and contributed to the cause, and good luck to all students soon beginning a new school year!
