We set out to make an impact this holiday season, thanks to you we did just that – 44,000 times!
Last fall our Member Grown Outreach program asked members what our additional outreach should focus on in 2018. They told us nutrition and hunger were top priority. With the focus in mind, we partnered with Michigan Harvest Gathering and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
From October 16 to November 16, members and employees donated to either organization. We led the charge before the holiday season approached by offering to match donations. Thanks to everyone's generous effort, over 44,000 meals were donated to Michigan and northeastern Wisconsin families. These donations were very important to both organizations as they came just before Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Michigan Harvest Gathering benefits Michigan families through the Food Bank Council of Michigan and over 3,000 community agencies across Michigan. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin benefits food banks located in Milwaukee and the Fox Valley. Feeding America is a national network of over 200 food banks across the country.
“So many of us enjoy the tradition of a big family meal around the holidays. Sadly, many Wisconsin families aren’t certain they will have a meal at all. The donation made by GeenStone will help us not only make sure families can share a holiday meal, but also help us provide food throughout the winter when families are deciding between heat or dinner on the table,” says Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin spokesperson, Lisa Endl.
Our Member Grown Outreach program was formed as a part of our outreach and engagement involvement. Under our outreach and engagement involvement you will also find young, beginning and small farmers, youth education and agriculture awareness. All of these initiatives fulfill our Farm Credit mission of sustaining the rural communities we live and serve in.
