GreenStone Winter Interns

As the tax season draws to a close this spring, the GreenStone tax and accounting interns are finishing up their final projects and preparing for their new summer roles. For most interns, the busy season is May-August when college classes are out for the summer and students are spending their newly found time getting a head start on their future careers. However, that’s not the case for many accounting and finance majors!

For future accountants and finance professionals seeking experience in taxes, the tax and accounting internship is the perfect seasonal role. Starting in December, intern begins the season, looking over income and expense documents and embarking on the season of taxes.

The daily tasks include completing tax returns for clients, prepping 1099’s and W-2s, and any other related duties that may arise to assist the tax accountants.

For Brady Hand, Western Michigan University graduate, the independence is his favorite part of the internship. “I really enjoy the independence, the hands-off approach has really helped me learn and have confidence in my ability,” Brady said.

GreenStone interns thrive when given independence and gain valuable skills through hands-on real-world tasks. However, there is always a helping hand to be found through their mentors and leaders.

“I enjoy the independence, but I appreciate that there is always an option to work challenges out with the accounting professionals at GreenStone. There’s always someone to offer guidance, answer questions, and just chat with,” tax and accounting intern Brian Lapetina, regarded with admiration.

The internship program at GreenStone, provides an opportunity for students to explore a variety of career fields by offering the potential to intern for multiple seasons. Western Michigan University senior Justin Bloom interned with GreenStone as a credit analyst during the summer of 2022 and decided to continue his journey with GreenStone while exploring the world of tax and accounting.

“I really enjoyed interning with GreenStone over the summer and decided I wanted to stay. So, I embarked on the world of taxes to increase my knowledge of tax credits and deductions available to taxpayers to help in my future career of financial advising,” explained Justin.

For Harrison Hautau, a seasonal role turned into a returning opportunity. Harrison is currently a senior at Michigan State University studying agri-business management. He first interned for the 2022 tax season and is now back again for 2023. “I really enjoyed the opportunity to expand my knowledge into this year and get my hands on some more complicated tasks to increase responsibility. Returning to the internship has helped me build on my previous relationships, increase my confidence, and better understand the company's future,” Harrison said.
