This month, the group of summer interns took a trip to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Lansing for an eventful “Pathway to Success Day”. Throughout the day, the interns were privileged to engage with great speakers who covered a diverse range of topics, including interview techniques, resume writing, business etiquette, and presentation tips.
Under the guidance of Lindsey Bliss, Greenstone’s Senior Learning & Organizational Development Partner, the interns learned the ins and outs of business etiquette coving topics like the art of conversation, business communication, and how to navigate a business dinner. Helpful tips and tricks were shared, including the importance of passing the salt and pepper together, even if someone had requested just one of them, and the proper protocol when sitting down at a business meal – placing the napkin in one’s lap. Later the interns had the opportunity to network with a group of full-time employees and partake in a formal lunch, where they could put their newfound etiquette knowledge to the test.
At the end of the day, interns received valuable tips and tricks from former intern Alexis Rosa to prepare for their upcoming intern presentations.
“End of year projects/presentations are very common with internships, but GreenStone does them differently,” states Alexis. “Instead of just presenting to your team or the cohort of interns, you get to present to any GreenStone staff that can make it. It is an exceptional way for interns and staff to connect on topics/projects they may have been working on. I remember being nervous for my internship presentation, but afterwards I got messages from my team and other staff that made me feel like it was worth it. Some asked questions while others congratulated me on a great internship. The networking and exposure with GreenStone staff that comes out of an event like intern presentations is undeniable!”
The day’s engaging experience not only equipped the interns with practical skills but also instilled a sense of readiness to excel in their future endeavors. It was a day of growth and learning, setting the stage for a bright and successful future for each and every intern involved.
