Christmas lights decorated around the barn

Have you ever been to the Hallmark™ town located just 46 minutes south of Lansing? In Marshall, Michigan you can find the whole town decorated for the Christmas season, but the star of the show is the semi-trailer load of lights strung all over the Calhoun County Fairgrounds! Each section of the fairgrounds is decorated differently from flying pigs to tractors.

If you are driving through the mile long Christmas light show this year, pay special attention as you reach the south side - GreenStone’s Concord and Jonesville offices helped set out the picturesque scene at the south side of the fairgrounds.

“In previous years we have unloaded the semi-trailer load of lights, and set up the Christmas trees, but this year we got to set up a scene with a deer, blue and white snowflakes, and a giant Christmas tree. They brought in a large boom truck to help put the lights up on the tree. It was pretty cool because I got to drive the truck to help set up!” Benjamin Hawes, financial services officer at the Concord branch says smiling.

Getting involved in the community and the Calhoun County fair means a lot to the Concord branch, especially Kristin Love, loan processor. Love helps fundraise and advertise for the Eggnog jog. “Since so many people wanted to walk through the Merry Mile, they came up with the idea to do a run through it,” Kristin says. “A portion of the proceeds go to the CCAIS, which is the Calhoun County Agricultural Industrial Society. The society designates the proceeds to fairground building.”

The holiday season is an important time to get involved in your community. “Be the change that you want to see. We have an impact in our communities when we get involved,” Hawes says. The Merry Mile has a bright impact in the Marshall community, and our staff members are happy to be a part of it!

You can drive through this mile long Christmas light show this holiday season, or you can participate in the Eggnog jog on December 6th! GreenStone is proud of our branches like Concord who are spreading the holiday cheer this season.
