With the tax season quickly drawing to a close, the nine GreenStone tax and accounting interns are busy putting the final touches on their projects and preparing for summer. Like many finance and accounting majors, they find themselves in a unique seasonal role, December-April.
Typically, internships are known to run from May-August when classes are finished for the semester and students have the time to focus on the foundation of their careers over the summer. However, for students pursuing an interest in taxes, they have an interesting opportunity to learn while the tax season is in full force.
Starting in December, GreenStone’s interns begin the season with looking over customer’s income and expense documents. Day to day they complete tax returns for clients, prep 1099’s, and W-2’s. Most beneficial is they work directly with our tax accountants, assisting in any other related duties that may arise.
While the interns are gaining irreplaceable real-world experiences, GreenStone’s team is also grateful for what the interns contribute to their teams. A few of their managers have said: our tax and accounting interns are a special group this year. -They are getting the work done as fast as we can give it out to them and are doing it quite well. They have been a great addition to the team; they continue to impress us with every project.
When asked what the most valuable aspect of their internship is, intern Amy Wang vocalized, “As an intern, the most valuable aspect for me has been the supportive work environment at Greenstone. I was able to ask questions and seek guidance from tax professionals across branches.”
Gabrielle Flandreau agreed by saying, “They allow me to work on my own and give me the chance to learn things for myself and go to them for questions.”
