Farm Credit Donates $200,000 to Homegrown By Heroes

GreenStone Farm Credit Services had the honor of announcing a $200,000 sponsorship of Homegrown By Heroes on behalf of the Farm Credit System at the third annual Farmer Veteran Coalition Stakeholders Conference in East Lansing, Michigan.

Jim Nowak, GreenStone regional vice president, made the announcement during the Homegrown by Heroes discussion panel at the conference. "Farm Credit is very proud to recognize the work of farmer veterans like all of you, who have chosen to serve your country and communities through farming and ranching, even after your military service has ended," said Nowak while addressing the conference attendees. "We recognize consumers also want to do their part to support veterans, and the Homegrown by Heroes label allows them to do that by purchasing products made by farmer veterans."

This marks Farm Credit’s fourth year of support for the Farmer Veteran Coalition and the Homegrown By Heroes labeling initiative. The sponsorship will help expand the use of the marketing label program, which has been adopted by more than 550 farmer veterans in 48 states.

About Homegrown By Heroes

Homegrown By Heroes (HBH) is the official farmer veteran branding program of America. The HBH logo serves to inform consumers that products donning the logo were produced by military veterans. The program is available to farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and value-added producers of all branches and eras of military service.

Founded by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Farmer Veteran Coalition was granted the honor of administering the program nationally on Veterans Day 2013. Since then, the program has expanded to include over 550 members in 48 states plus Puerto Rico. HBH is supported by several national agriculture and food safety leaders such USDA, Farm Credit, and the American Farm Bureau.
