Getting Involved and Giving Back

Giving back to the community is common throughout the month of December, and this year the employees of GreenStone’s Adrian Branch decided to give back to their community in a big way! Handmade quilts, soap, and diapers were among the list of donations collected just in time for the holidays. Danielle Hudson and Stephanie Lundy, who are based at the Adrian location, connected with Catherine Cobb Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Shelter and organized the collection of necessities for families in need.

“As a branch, each year we choose a place in the community to donate to for the holiday season, and typically we will adopt a family from the Salvation Army. However, in 2019 we received a letter from the Catherine Cobb Shelter outlining items they needed most,” says Danielle Hudson. “So, Financial Services Officer Stephanie Lundy and I decided this would be a great cause to donate to!

Speaking personally, Danielle added, “I recognize that not everyone has been afforded opportunities or has had an easy go at life, so when opportunities come up for me to give back, I take them. I believe it’s important to give back to my community to contribute to the well-being of those in need and to help make their lives better, if I can.”

To help individuals and families make positive changes in their lives’ is the mission statement for the Catherine Cobb Domestic Violence Shelter. The shelter has been serving Lenawee County residents for nearly sixty years with financial, legal, and housing issues -- meaning, the shelter relies heavily on the community for donations.

“Standing back after we organized all the donations and realizing how kind and generous all of my coworkers are makes me so proud to be a part of this team at GreenStone,” says Danielle when asked about the project. “One of my coworkers’ church groups made 20 absolutely beautiful quilts, and the ladies at the shelter LOVED them. It was a very heartwarming moment.”

It is important for those at GreenStone to get involved in local community service activities, because the areas where we work are often the areas where we live. Getting involved in the community and interacting with neighbors, friends, colleagues and customers is an important part of GreenStone’s four core values:

Customer First • Deliver Quality • Get Involved • Do the Right Thing

Thank you to all who donated to the Catherine Cobb Domestic Violence Shelter at the Adrian Branch!
