The Macomb Charitable Foundation is a nonprofit organization located in Macomb, Michigan, serving children who are living at or below the poverty level. Often, this includes children who are homeless, sleep in their vehicles, those who do not have a permanent place to call home or are in households struggling to pay bills.
Shelly Penzien, founder of The Macomb Charitable Foundation, states their mission is, “To reach out to children who are in special need of assistance, make a difference for these children and families, and let them know that their surrounding communities care about them.”
The Macomb Charitable Foundation focuses on the child’s needs and how they can make their lives a little more special. The support is often life-changing and their impact allows the children in need to focus on being a kid. They offer a variety of resources such as tutoring, clothing, food, and so much more to assure these children are cared for. Focused on giving these children and families the resources they need daily in turn provides them the motivation to keep going.
The Macomb Charitable Foundation consists of a group of 5 board members and up to 50 volunteers at any given time. They have numerous fundraisers, including golf outings, trivia nights, road rallies, and so much more. Outside of these fundraisers, they heavily rely on donations to help make a difference in these children’s lives. On average, they expense around $30,000 each month to support these children throughout Macomb county.
As stated in GreenStone’s earlier blog regarding the Member Grown Outreach program voting results, The Macomb Charitable Foundation was awarded a donation of $4,000 to help them fund their ongoing support for their community!
“The donation from GreenStone will go toward supporting the children,” Shelly explains, describing the different ways they have helped in the past. “Emergency shelters, single mothers with families, and purchasing shoes or clothing for children.”
